Does milk counteract spicy food?

The active ingredient in many spicy foods is capsaicin, which is what irritates our taste buds and gives most food its “spicy” taste or mouth-feel. Milk contains casein, a protein that has a detergent like effect on capsaicin, like soap on grease, effectively taking the edge off and leaving your mouth much happier.
